Target of imitations, this rich heritage was subject to certification through systems of protection and appreciation identified in the expressions Protected Designation of Origin (PDO), Protected Geographical Indication (IPG) and Traditional Speciality Guaranteed (TSG).
In total, there are over one hundred products positioning Portugal among the European countries with the largest number of qualifications.
The Protected Designation of Origin identifies a product whose production, processing and preparation take place in a geographical area using recognized know-how.
In the case of Protected Geographical Indication, the relationship with the geographical environment is mandatory, at least in one production phase.
The Traditional Speciality Guaranteed marks a product obtained through a recipe or traditional mode of production.
